Being a huge Back to the Future fan, I never expected we’d get a chance to revisit Marty and company in all new stories. I expected, even less, a video game that would do just that. And I would have expected, least of all, that it might actually be good.
Back to the Future: The Game looks to be a worthwhile adventure as a video game sequel to the original film trilogy. With familiar characters like Marty McFly, Doc Brown, George McFly and Biff Tannen, it follows a whole new story not long after the end of the last movie.
Here’s the official description on Telltale Games‘ website:
“Six months after the events of the third film, the DeLorean Time Machine mysteriously returns to Hill Valley–driverless! Marty must go back in time and get aid from a resistant teenage Emmett Brown, or else the space time continuum will forever be unraveled!”
The game will be released in five monthly episodes starting December 22. It’s not clear what the gameplay will be like, but you will play as Marty, solving puzzles and interacting with characters and objects. You’ll also get a chance to explore environments like Doc’s house.
Christopher Lloyd reprises his role as Emmett Brown. Although new actors voice the other characters, including Marty, they sound surprisingly good. It’s also got the original Huey Lewis music.
We’ll be playing!
The game will be available initially for Windows and Mac OS, and will later be released on iPad and Playstation 3. You can buy it at Telltale.
